Nicola Maxwell B. Soc. Sc. (NUI, Cork), M.Sc. (Oxon) is a National Coordinator for the GENOVATE-UCC project, an FP-7-funded action research project which aims to ensure equal opportunities for women and men by encouraging a more gender-aware management in research and scientific decision-making bodies. Nicola has a combination of academic and applied experience with regard to equality, rights-based approaches and action research methodologies having worked in the NGO sector, chiefly with Oxfam GB. Nicola’s inter-disciplinary research and teaching activities encompass delivering social policy modules and teaching on a programme for people with intellectual disabilities designed for delivery in a third level education setting in University College Cork. She is a registered PhD student in the Centre for Disability Law and Policy in NUI Galway exploring how rights-based approaches, reflecting core tenets derived from international Human Rights legislation, are implemented within disability services for adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) in Ireland
