Ellen Pugh is a Senior Policy Adviser for Equality Challenge Unit (ECU). Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) works to further and support equality and diversity for staff and students in higher education institutions across all four nations of the UK and in colleges in Scotland.
Ellen has many years of experience working on equality issues especially related to gender, gender identity and disability. Recently she has been involved in the expansion of Athena SWAN to the arts, humanities and social sciences. She has also worked with the UK higher education funding councils to embed equality considerations into the UK’s research excellence framework.
She has been involved in the development of the statutory codes of practice and guidance on the Equality Act 2010 and Part 4 of the Disability Discrimination Act. She has also commissioned research on gender in higher education leadership, pay equality and male student experience in higher education. Most recently Ellen has written guidance for on supporting trans gender staff and students.
