Alva Traebert, University of Edinburgh, UK.
2.00pm, Rethinking intersectionality, gender identities and gender equality.
Alva Traebert is a feminist researcher and activist currently writing her PhD in Sociology. She previously completed an MSc in Gender History at Edinburgh University. Her research explores intersectional LGBT identities in Scotland, while a lot of her teaching work (in the UK and Germany) focuses on intersectionality and complex social inequality. She works as a freelance trainer on issues around structural inequality and gender-based violence, and is currently the Chair of Edinburgh Women's Aid. Most of her activist projects have been located at the intersection of academia and community work, such as the queer storytelling sessions she has hosted and recorded for OurStory Scotland, a charity collecting and preserving LGBT life stories that was nominated for a Scottish LGBTI Award in 2015.
