Luleå University of Technology

Drawing on the notion that gender-awareness generates sustainability, we will present the implementation of the GEAP of Luleå University of Technology, discuss its outcomes, challenges and benefits and show how it has brought about change at structural level as well as within innovation eco-systems. We begin by describing how the implementation of a gender-aware and sustainable recruitment process has increased the number of women professors at the university. We then show how the integration of gender and diversity perspectives led to the introduction of gender-aware practices within the fields of ICT and mining. To highlight how this has transformed the ICT research agenda, we end by showing how a gender-aware and user-centric approach was integrated in 30 funding proposals and is implemented in OPTi, an ongoing H2020 project aiming at developing next-generation district heating and cooling systems.
